Women Empowerment project

About half of the population of Nepal is female. The female literacy rate in Nepal is much lower compared to the males. In the rural areas and also in big cities like Kathmandu, girls do not get to go to school because of many reasons like social or economic. In the male dominant Nepali society, women have to struggle for their rights. Due to illiteracy and lack of skills, many women and children were used by the Maoist party of Nepal during the decade long Maoist civil war. We work together with other women organizations on this which works for Nepali women who were victims of the war, domestic violence and the society.

You can work in places where women who are mostly widow, abandoned by husbands or girls and women from lower caste groups are given trainings and education to make their living. Through women empowerment program these women are given education and taught earning skills by teaching them candle making, sewing clothes, cookery etc. The women empowerment program aims to uplift the living standards of poor helpless women by giving trainings and providing moral and financial support so that they can stand on their feet by using the skills they have learnt during the training period. You will be given proper instructions about your work before you start volunteering. You will have a supervisor at your placement who would be the main contact person with whom you will deal with regarding your work. The supervisor is there to help and guide you.
